Tips for Growing Portrait Galleries

If you're trying to choose a professional photographer for your baby's or family's portraits, browsing through a photographer's gallery or portfolio is one of the most important steps you can take. Regardless of what type of photographs you are looking for, please keep these tips in mind:

Look at the overall style/look in the portraits

Some photographers create light and airy portraits while others use deep and dramatic colors. Some photographs primarily use traditional, classic poses while others are more relaxed and intimate. Remember when you hire a photographer, you're hiring an artist. While I customize my portraits for every client to suit their tastes, our personal sense of aesthetics will always play a role.

Remember that portraits vary.

Try not to get too attached to the idea of re-creating any specific poses or portraits for your own session. There are always factors that can make a portrait look different for one person to another--maybe it needs a very specific type of natural light or the composition looks better with a family of four rather than a family of five. This is especially true for newborn portraits, as we never know which poses a baby will and won't be comfortable with. I want your session to be a reflection of your family and unique to YOU!
